Site settings
Advanced JSON
Editing the full site configuration as JSON, checked against the published schema
What the Advanced JSON page does
The Advanced JSON page shows the complete site configuration for a project as one JSON document. Use it when you need to change a setting that has no field on the other site settings pages, or when you want to review every setting at once. The other pages in Site settings (Appearance, Navigation, Domains, SEO and sharing, and Features) write to the same configuration, so both views stay in sync.
The editor is a code editor. Changes are checked against the published JSON Schema for site configuration, so invalid values are reported before they are applied.
Open the page
Open your project in the dashboard.
In the sidebar, go to Site settings.
Select Advanced JSON.
The page is part of the project's site settings, under /dashboard/projects/$projectId/site/*, alongside the other site settings pages.
Edit the configuration
Find the setting you want to change in the JSON document.
Edit the value. Keep the JSON valid: quote keys and strings, and separate entries with commas.
Check the validation messages before you leave the page. Invalid entries are reported against the published schema.
Save your change.
Note:
Editing JSON by hand can replace values you did not mean to change. Copy the document before you start, and compare it with the Appearance, Navigation, SEO and sharing, and Features pages after you save.
Validation
| Check | What happens when it fails |
|---|---|
| JSON syntax | The document cannot be read, so the change is not applied. |
| Published JSON Schema | Each invalid field is reported with a message that names the problem. |
Fix every reported issue before you publish. A configuration that does not pass validation cannot be used for the published site.
Make the change live
Site configuration changes are part of the docs work on a branch. Build a preview to check how the site looks with the change, then publish the branch. Until you publish, readers of your site see the previous version. For the full flow, see Branches, Previews, Publishing, and Restore.
When to use the other settings pages
Use the dedicated pages for most changes. They show one group of settings at a time and explain each field:
Appearance for theme, colors, and logo.
Navigation for sidebar and header order.
SEO and sharing for metadata and social previews.
Features for search and API reference pages.
Custom Domains for attaching your own domain.
Connected agents
A connected agent can read and change site settings through the get_site_settings and update_site_settings tools. See Site settings tools and MCP Scopes and Approval Requests before you grant an agent write access.
